Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
