Jair Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under home confinement.
The ex-president was found guilty of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and handed more than over two decades in incarceration, but he continued under confinement pending appeals.
Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after "new facts" emerged.
This included trying to remove his tracking device and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could enable a potential flight.
Court Filing Details Escape Risks
In a filing authorising the arrest, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the facility tracking Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the former leader's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his getaway".
This, it said, would be assisted by the chaos caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.

Context of Sentencing
The former president was determined responsible of heading a scheme aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Lula.
Supreme Court justices said that he knew of a scheme which involved plans to assassinate Lula and his running partner, Geraldo Alckmin, and to arrest and execute the presiding judge - the top judicial official who has been managing Bolsonaro's trial.
The plot was prevented because it failed to get the support of the armed forces officials. Lula was took office without incident on January 1st, 2023.
But a following week, on the eighth of January, thousands of his backers invaded and destroyed official structures in the national capital, Brasília.
